Selected Judges' Comments

Dean's Sweets' use of top=quality dark chocolate put them over the top in the "Taste" category. JJ's Sweets went the extra miles in producing an organic vegan, GMO-free caramel that is also delicious; hits the spot for coconut lovers. Gem Chocolates: Brilliant box design! Amella's agave-sweetened caramels have a glorious natural richness that is truly unique. Sixth Course Chocolates were outstanding. The combinations of ingredients were creative and flavorful.

Amella overall was the 'favorite' company. I liked the look and texture of Sixth Coarse personal favorite: Kika's Treats - great texture, which goes a long way for me personally. personal favorite: The buttery coconut caramel from JJ was my idea of a perfect plain caramel; the habanero from Forte one of the best varietals of that perfection ever.
Sixth Course has again leapt out over a pack of seriously delicious contenders to define itself as a force to be reckoned with. personal favorite: Gem - really fantastic flavor, without being too salty personal favorite: JJ's Sweets and Forte (tie)
personal favorite: Sixth Course - they go beyond the sea salt caramel that is omnipresent now. I was also very impressed with Amelia's packaging and unique Agave & Double Chocolate flavors. personal favorite: The Cocomel were fun and unusual, the Amella was wonderfully consistent! hands down though, the Forte Chipotle Honey caramels are something I would seek out! personal favorite: The passion fruit heart from Chocolat. Gem selections were outstanding.
  I was particularly impressed by the daring approach taken by Sixth Course - firstly, for the gutsyness of its flavor combinations, and secondly for really making them work on a gastronomic level.
