Celebrity Chef Jose Andrés restaurants start using Loliware’s sustainable Seaweed Straws

Loliware, the pioneering seaweed-resin company, has announced a significant partnership with Celebrity Chef Jose Andrés’ “José Andrés Group (JAG), the internationally renowned restaurateur’s network of establishments. This collaboration aims to enhance JAG’s purpose-driven practices by introducing Loliware’s innovative seaweed products in their North American restaurants.

Loliware’s seaweed-resin straws and utensils are designed to resemble and function like plastic but can fully compost within 50 days. This is a significant step toward combating the environmental impact of single-use plastics, as it is estimated by National Geographic Magazine and other sources that over 100 million plastic utensils are used daily in the U.S., contributing to pollution on beaches and in oceans worldwide. Loliware’s mission goes beyond waste elimination to encompass responsible ocean aquaculture and fair trade practices.

Manufactured in Missouri, Loliware’s seaweed-based forks, knives, and spoons are the world’s first of their kind. They provide a sustainable alternative to limit the accumulation of single-use plastics in landfills and oceans.

The partnership kicks off in Chicago, where Loliware straws are introduced at Bar Mar, Bazaar Meat by José Andrés, and Jaleo. The plan is to expand the use of Loliware products to JAG properties in DC and eventually across the entire country.

In addition to featuring Loliware’s ocean-friendly products, JAG’s Research & Development team will work closely with Loliware to create unique and customized serveware. This partnership aims to showcase the synergy between José Andrés’ award-winning creativity and the shared commitment to purpose-driven dining.

Sam Bakhshandehpour, President of José Andrés Group, emphasized the importance of considering not just the food itself but also the sustainability of the service ware, including the plates, forks, and straws. He expressed excitement about collaborating with Loliware to bring innovation to their restaurants and push the boundaries of service ware.

Loliware is a woman-owned tech company that aims to replace single-use plastics with products that naturally disappear. Through partnerships with experts in regenerative aquaculture worldwide, Loliware utilizes its proprietary SEATech resins and products to contribute to the expansion of the “blue economy.” Their compostable seaweed-based Blue Ocean straws have already gained popularity among famous chefs, restaurant chains, and eco-conscious hotels. Loliware’s SEATech resins are now available for licensing globally, driving the planet toward a plastic-free and decarbonized future.

Loliware CEO Sea F. Briganti expressed their enthusiasm for partnering with José Andrés Group, acknowledging the iconic status of the group and their leader’s contributions to culinary innovation and humanitarian relief efforts. Briganti believes this partnership speaks to the transformative potential of Loliware’s SEATech resins.

José Andrés Group (JAG), led by Chef and Founder José Andrés and President Sam Bakhshandehpour, is a creative team behind renowned dining concepts and a dynamic media company. With a mission to change the world through food, JAG operates over 30 restaurant concepts across various cities and countries. From food trucks to Michelin-starred tasting menus, JAG offers diverse culinary experiences. In addition to their restaurants, JAG’s media company, formed in 2021, focuses on sharing food-related stories through television series, books, podcasts, and digital content. José Andrés, an internationally recognized culinary innovator, humanitarian, and bestselling author, has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the industry and his philanthropic efforts.

Real Oyster Cult Makes Good on Promise to Deliver Delicious Live Oysters to Your Doorstep

Fresh oysters are a delicacy that require one main ingredient, and that’s freshness. So when we heard about seafood company Real Oyster Cult, that says they will deliver fresh oysters across the country to you, and guarantees that they are actually fresh, we had to take a look at it. Fortunately, we found that this promise was in fact delivered upon 100%.

The oysters that we received were all tightly closed within their shells, proof that they were not only alive but also determined to remain that way, with their freshness and sea water inside. Not a single one had even the slightest hint of an open shell. The overall reviewers’ verdict on their taste was an A+.

Real Oyster Cult is one of several national or local firms that have moved into the area of bringing sustainably harvested seafood directly to people’s homes. These oysters arrive live in an insulated cold storage device, which allows them to be stored in a home refrigerator for up to 10 days without a problem.

Of course, who is really going to keep live oysters in the refrigerator for 10 days without eating them? But it’s good to know that you have the option, as long as you keep them on ice.

Real Oyster Cult says that this entire idea came to them because they are already oyster farmers, and they were in the habit of throwing great parties on their floating workspace above the oyster beds, a perfect place to concoct this new business model.

Seems like they did a great job with that idea. Not only do they send the oysters that they cultivate themselves, they also now include the opportunity for seafood lovers to taste oysters from over 70 different farms from across North America. The 20 oysters that we received in the Real Oyster Cult Gift Bundle package were of three different types, and this was from a possible curated selection of over 20 varieties oysters available.  The package can be increased by 20 oysters at a time, and they can send a bundle of 40 or 60 oysters, depending on your needs. The Gift Bundle also includes a free shucking knife and rubberized non-slip gloves, which are not just practical and safe, but also a delight to use. They definitely speed up the process if you don’t have an oyster knife and gloves already available. If you don’t eat oysters on a regular basis, the gloves can alternately be used in the garden.

On top of being a tasty luxury, oysters are known for having multiple health and wellness benefits. Furthermore, apparently being an oyster farmer is more than a delicious occupation, although tiring.  It also helps keep the natural environment clean. Oysters clean the ocean and can filter nitrogen from 25 to 50 gallons of sea water every day. Too much nitrogen is not good for the ecosystem, and oysters contribute to keeping it balanced. Real Oyster Cult says that helping to support this balance is part of their overall mission.

In addition to the several varieties of oysters available, Real Oyster Cult also has seasoning sauces and hot sauces (called Mignon-Nips), wine and whiskey pairing packages, caviar, Maine Lobster, and Jonah Crab Claws. The Gift Bundle starts at around $69.

Paris Fashion Designer FARHAD RE Releases Latest Eco Responsible Capsule Collection

Parisian fashion designer Farhad Re is incorporating sustainable fashion concepts into his latest collection, and uses pieces from the collection as a canvas to mirror his moods. The fabric colors he uses are 100% vegetable and organic, with 100 % biological pigments.

In Farhad’s atelier in Paris, these colorized dresses allow us to discover new architectural facets thanks to the way they are painted. Shadows and volumes are reflected differently and in a controlled harmony.

In this new Farhad Re Couture Paris collection — created during the COVID lockdown — Farhad‘s muse Galatea escapes from her monochrome universe and discovers a multicolored and hopeful world thanks to the arrival of a vaccine.

As in classical mythology, Galatea rediscovers the Red of Love, the Blue of the Sky, the Green of Hope, and the Yellow of Light and of the Sun. Regardless of a few dark clouds still looming in the distance, Galatea optimistically feels the world is coming back to life.

This Farhad Re collection embodies a rise and escalation of Hope, along with the spirit of eco-responsibility.

Saint Mojavi Drops Fashion Collection that Promote Chic Style and Sustainability

Saint Mojavi is a Los Angeles based ready-to-wear label focused on reducing their eco-footprint through thoughtful production practices.

Saint Mojavi was founded in 2018 by Hawai’i born designer, Teresa Pinedo. Since the start of the brand, Pinedo has been extremely passionate about reducing excess waste and made this a key component of the Saint Mojavi ethos. The brand was also recently highlighted on Forbes as one of “Four Sustainable Fashion Brands You Need To Know.”

Pinedo incorporates pre-loved fabrics into each collection — these fabrics are mainly sourced from local mom & pop shops who no longer need it. Many fabrics are re-worked into multiple Saint Mojavi collections, bringing new life to past materials in various ways.

One example is how Pinedo re-invented a colorful plaid seersucker fabric from her “La Cartagena 2020” collection into the “La Escapar 2021” collection. Fashion loves can see how she used this fabric to create a tri-color patchwork print for classic styles like the Cieza Tee and Talavera Tube Dress.

In practice, no fabric goes to waste at the Saint Mojavi atelier in Downtown Los Angeles. Extra scraps are used to create fashionable accessories like bucket hats, gloves, and even reversible face-masks. In addition, last year Saint Mojavi removed their wholesale partnerships and became entirely “Made to Order,” significantly reducing excess fabrics and packaging. Even the buttons on each piece are either sourced locally or are vintage so that nothing ends up in a landfill. Going forward the brand will also be using fully biodegradable packaging.

Saint Mojavi also has a growing list of celebrity fans, including Kendall Jenner.
