How to Keep Your Clear Transparent Eyeglasses Sparkling

Having a pair of eyeglasses with clear frames is a very stylish choice, but they have a downside.  It is that dirt, dust and oil trapped between the lenses and the frames is hard to clean, and is also visible. But, we have some tips.

To safely and effectively clean transparent eyeglass frames (and the lenses), especially when there’s accumulated oil and dirt, follow these steps:

Best Cleaning Method (Safe for Frames & Lenses)

What You’ll Need:

  • Mild dish soap (free of lotions, like Dawn or similar)

  • Lukewarm water

  • A clean microfiber cloth

  • Optional: a soft toothbrush

Step-by-Step Cleaning:

  1. Rinse with Lukewarm Water:

    • Gently rinse the glasses under lukewarm (not hot!) water to remove dust and debris that could scratch the lenses.

  2. Apply Mild Soap:

    • Put a small drop of mild, lotion-free dish soap on your fingers.

    • Gently rub both sides of the lenses and the entire frame, focusing on oily areas like the nose pads and temples.

  3. Use a Soft Toothbrush for Frames:

    • For gunk in tight spots (like hinges or nose pads), use a soft-bristled toothbrush with soap.

    • Be gentle to avoid scratching or loosening any components.

  4. Rinse Thoroughly:

    • Make sure all soap is rinsed off—leftover residue can cause smudging.

  5. Dry with a Microfiber Cloth:

    • Pat and wipe dry with a clean microfiber cloth. Avoid paper towels or your shirt—they can scratch lenses.

Tips & Warnings:

  • Avoid: household cleaners (Windex, vinegar, alcohol, bleach), especially if lenses have coatings (like anti-glare or blue light filters)—they can degrade them.

  • Don’t use hot water: it can warp plastic frames or damage lens coatings.

  • Don’t air dry: can leave water spots, especially on coated lenses.

Optional: Lens Cleaning Spray

Use a store-bought lens cleaning solution (labeled safe for coated lenses) for quick maintenance between washes.

3 Delicious and Simple Pupusa Recipes Using Masa Harina de Maíz

Pupusas—El Salvador’s beloved griddle cakes—are warm, golden pockets of joy made with masa de maíz and filled with melty, savory goodness. Whether you’re new to making pupusas or already addicted, these three simple recipes using Masa Harina de Maíz (easily found in most Latin markets) will help you create irresistible versions right at home. All you need is a bit of time, your hands, and a hot griddle. Let’s dive in.

1. Classic Cheese Pupusas (Pupusas de Queso)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Masa Harina de Maíz

  • 1½ cups warm water

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Oaxaca cheese

  • ¼ cup grated queso fresco (optional for extra flavor)

  • Pinch of salt

  • Neutral oil for greasing hands and griddle

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine masa and warm water. Mix until a soft dough forms—it should feel like playdough. Add a pinch of salt.

  2. Divide dough into 6 balls. Flatten each one into a disc about 4 inches wide.

  3. Place 2 tablespoons of cheese mixture in the center, then fold the edges up to seal. Carefully flatten into a disc again.

  4. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or skillet over medium heat.

  5. Cook pupusas for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden and slightly charred.

  6. Serve hot with curtido (pickled cabbage slaw) and salsa roja.

2. Bean & Cheese Pupusas (Frijoles y Queso)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Masa Harina de Maíz

  • 1½ cups warm water

  • 1 cup refried black or red beans (homemade or canned)

  • ¾ cup shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese

  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Make masa dough as above.

  2. Mix beans and cheese in a bowl.

  3. Divide dough into balls, flatten, and add a tablespoon of bean-cheese mixture in the center.

  4. Seal and flatten into a thick disc.

  5. Cook on a greased griddle for 3–4 minutes per side.

  6. Serve with curtido and your favorite hot sauce.

3. Spinach, Cheese & Jalapeño Pupusas (Vegetarian Twist)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Masa Harina de Maíz

  • 1½ cups warm water

  • 1 cup sautéed spinach (well-drained and chopped)

  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella or pepper jack cheese

  • 1 finely chopped jalapeño (seeds removed for less heat)

  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Prepare masa dough with warm water and salt.

  2. In a separate bowl, mix spinach, cheese, and jalapeño.

  3. Form masa balls, flatten, fill with veggie mixture, seal, and flatten again.

  4. Cook over medium heat until golden and toasty, about 4 minutes per side.

  5. Serve with avocado slices and lime.

BONUS RECIPE

4. Shredded Chicken and Cheese Pupusas (Pupusas de Pollo y Queso)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Masa Harina de Maíz

  • 1½ cups warm water

  • 1 cup cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works great)

  • ¾ cup shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese

  • 1 small garlic clove, minced

  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Oil for cooking

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine shredded chicken with garlic, onion, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

  2. Prepare masa dough by mixing masa and warm water until soft and pliable.

  3. Divide dough into 6 balls. Flatten each into a disc about 4 inches wide.

  4. Place 2 tablespoons of the chicken mixture and a tablespoon of cheese in the center of each disc.

  5. Fold edges over filling, seal tightly, then gently flatten into a thick disc again.

  6. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or skillet over medium heat.

  7. Cook pupusas 3–4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through.

  8. Serve hot with curtido and salsa roja.

This chicken and cheese pupusa brings a savory, aromatic flavor that’s perfect for a hearty meal. The cumin and garlic add warmth and depth, making these pupusas a real crowd-pleaser!

RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Keep a small bowl of water nearby to wet your hands—this prevents sticking when shaping the pupusas.

  • Don’t worry if your first few pupusas look a little rough. They’ll still taste amazing.

  • Feel free to add small amounts of water to the dough if it feels dry and crumbling after you have finished making it into the first ball.
  • You can serve with curtido (the traditional Salvadoran cabbage slaw) and a drizzle of salsa roja.

Pupusas are best enjoyed hot off the griddle, with friends, family, or on a quiet evening when only warm comfort food will do. Let the fillings inspire you—try chorizo, squash blossoms, mushrooms, or even kimchi. With Masa Harina de Maíz as your base, your pupusa game has no limits.

Trader Joe’s Paella is Much Better than You Would Expect

Trader Joe’s Paella offers a surprisingly satisfying take on the classic Spanish dish, especially for a frozen meal. It’s a practical option for those curious about Mediterranean flavors but not quite ready to cook a traditional version from scratch.

The ingredient list includes saffron, onions, garlic, tomatoes, and bell peppers, along with a mix of seafood—shrimp, clams, mussels, and squid. Together, they create a dish with depth and complexity, though the balance sometimes leans more toward the rice and seasoning than the protein.

Preparation is simple, whether using the microwave or stovetop. For a weeknight dinner, it delivers decent results with little effort. It also offers a more budget-friendly alternative to gathering all the components individually, which can be time-consuming and costly.

In terms of taste, the rice is infused with a warm, spiced profile that complements the briny notes of the seafood. The shrimp and mussels hold their texture well, though the squid can be slightly chewy depending on your method of reheating.

Overall, this paella works well as a convenient freezer staple. It won’t match the experience of a freshly made version, but for a store-bought option, it delivers enough flavor and variety to be worth trying—especially for fans of global cuisine looking to keep things simple.

Unfortunately, as we know products come and go at Trader Joe’s, so if it’s not there now, check and see when it will return.
